Guillemots, Porthmissen, Cornwall.
A notebook spread, but a little more considered. I had already been sketching a while and found this group rather attractive. The drawing probably began with the birds in the corner as they form a kind of anchor point, and then the others added as they adopted suitable poses.
I did a painting of the same group (shown below), but the composition was much less satisfactory, spoilt by the bird on the left looking out of the painting. Now why didn't I notice that and fix it at the time? A shame, because the watercolour is quite nice otherwise, mottled with raindrops!
